Management ProgramFor years we had heard and read what leading biologists were saying about growing large bucks. They all indicated that three factors weighed heavily in the formula; age, nutrition and genetics. We struck out in 1994 with a strict management plan that would lead Whitetails to this end. We started with the removal of inferior bucks early in the normal hunting season prior to the rut, to prevent the passing of inferior genes to future generations. We also started removing does to achieve a more effective buck/doe ratio. The big bucks, those with larger bodies, larger masses and more points were left at Whitetails to pass on their genetics over the past 8 years. The results have been quite impressive. On any given afternoon you will likely see more bucks than does and the overall quality is steadily improving.
